A number of people have been asking for an update on the Lidl supermarket application for planning permission to build on a field in LLanmaes
The Vale Of Glamorgan’s planning committee voted to allow the scheme to go ahead in December 2024. This was against the advice of the council’s planning officers.
They were concerned about the impact the building would have on the area, near the traffic lights in Llanmaes
The situation currently, is that the Welsh Government Planning Department, PEDW, has called the application in for a higher level inquiry, after first calling it in for a planning hearing. They were alerted to possible breaches of the Council’s own policies around protecting the countryside
A majority of Llanmaes residents, and a fair number of Llantwit Major residents support the calling in, because they maintain that allowing the Lidl development in that particular spot should not be allowed for that reason.
We understand that this may not be the view of every Llanmaes resident as some people want what they think is cheaper food. We would welcome Lidl, or indeed any other supermarket, at another, more suitable location in the area
This is not NIMBYISM!
This is an attempt to protect the beautiful fields arounds us, which many enjoy walking past, on their way in and out of Llanmaes
For that reason, for the past four years, many Llanmaes families have been quietly supporting efforts to pay for legal advice
We have raised more than £10,000 in that time.
To be represented at the enquiry, by a barrister, will cost many thousands more
